Mini-review for Foundation (above):
It's in Alpha / Early-Access so it's very incomplete. It's very cute / fun / pretty and the free-form keep-building is super-cool. I think it's what I needed for a couple days-- but then I hit a few walls with how incomplete it is.
Some big bugs ("stuck" villagers) and some soft bugs (forester can't find land to plant trees that I've zoned in a big patch of empty fields, WTF?) and some design messes (villagers build their own houses, but even with lots of high-quality zoning they don't build enough but there's no systems to deal with homelessness, so again WTF?)
I'm pretty sure it'll be a great game in about 2 years time. I'll check in on it again in a few months.
So now I'm onto the next game to still scratch that city-building itch. @Chell is poking around with the Anno games so we just picked up Anno 1800 on sale on the Epic Games Store. That we already know is a LOT more polished and very complete. Plus it has a coop mode, so we're likely to put many hours into it.
